CONDITIONED GREENWAY

“El Trenillo” was a train that once ran on a line that was built in the early twentieth century, linking Villacañas with Quintanar de la Orden. This train contributed to the economic development of the region, serving the region’s wine-making industry that still thrives today. LOCATION Between Villacañas and Quintanar de la Orden. Natural landscape: Near to this greenway lies Laguna Larga, a lake forming part of the “Mancha Húmeda” Special Protection Area (SPA) for birds. This SPA has been a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve since 1981. Laguna Larga, river Riansares, Laguna del Rey, river Cigüela, vineyards, and the typical plains landscape of Castilla-La Mancha. Cultural heritage: Los Silos (Villacañas); San Gregorio chapel; chimney stacks of disused alcohol plants (Villa de Don Fadrique); San Isidro chapel next to the Tahierro Bridge (over the river Cigüeña); San Juan Bautista church (Puebla de Almoradiel); remains of water mills.
